What is 20/20 eyesight?
20/20 eyesight is one component of the overall visual system. The visual system also involves visual integration, visual processing, visual percetual skills and more.

When an eye doctor says someone sees 20/20, it means that when standing at a distance of 20 feet from the eye chart you can see the same row of letters that the average person can see at this distance.  If you have 20/50 eyesight, for example, it means that you must be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with normal eyesight can see at 50 feet.  This is referred to as visual acuity.

Visual acuity is measured according to the size of letters viewed on a Snellen eye chart, which is a measure of the sharpness of sight.  However, visual acuity does not determine how your visual system (visual integration, visual processing, visual perceptual skills, etc) is functioning.
