Post-LASIK Instructions

To ensure the Best LASIK results, take extra care when using drops after your LASIK procedure. Create a "pocket" by gently pulling the bottom lid down. Then place drops in the pocket. Do not rub, poke, scratch, bump, touch your eye, or lift the upper lid. Wait five minutes between drops to ensure they do not flush one another out.

 
Antibiotic (tan cap):
  • Start eye drops Wednesday prior to procedure. Instill 1 drop each eye 4 times per day.
  • On day of procedure: instill 1 drop each eye, every waking hour following the procedure.
  • 1 day after procedure: instill 1 drop each eye 4 times per day for 7 days.
  • Doctor will give further instructions at 1 week post-op visit.

Anti-Inflamatory (pink cap):

  • SHAKE WELL
  • Begin drops after procedure: instill1 drop each eye, every waking hour.
  • 1 day after procedure: instill 1 drop each eye 4 times per day for 7 days.
  • Doctor will give further instructions at 1 week post-op visit.

Preservative Free Artificial Tears (Thera Tears / Thera Tears Liquigel):

  • Unless otherwise instructed, start drops day of procedure: instill 1 drop each eye, every waking hour or more often if needed.
  • Continue to use drops even if you do not experience dryness.

Additional Instructions:

  • Wear the provided clear goggles at bedtime for 5 days.
  • Wear high quality polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes from wind and bright lights.
  • Remember to use plenty of artificial tears especially during computer use.

After the Procedure:

  • Rest / sleep for the next 3-5 hours following the procedure.
  • Avoid reading, watching TV, and / or computer use until the following day. Also avoid areas with a lot of dust, debris, dirt, lint, or pet hair.
  • Expect some discomfort. Foreign body sensation, burning, red spots, or watery eyes are normal. These sensations will subside in a few days.
  • NO SWIMMING OR HOT TUBS FOR 90 DAYS.
  • As your cornea heals, you will experience fluctuation in your vision.  This is normal. Use artificial tears to help reduce fluctuation.
  • Avoid alcohol as it induces dryness.
