Diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and conditions of the eye require special testing.

Many eye diseases and conditions of the eye and the visual system result in vision loss.  These vision losses can be irreversible and permanent.

During a dilated eye exam the doctor may detect abnormalities within the eye.  When this happens it is important to proceed with the necessary tests that will help the doctor diagnosis the eye disease or condition.  Only with proper diagnosis can appropriate treatment be prescribed.

Just as a blood workup, x-rays, MRI's and CAT Scans are used to diagnose a variety of diseases in the body; eye doctors use OCT testing, retinal photography and visual fields testing to diagnose a variety of diseases in the eye.

Detailed digital images, photographs of the inside of the eye and visual fields analysis are necessary to provide early diagnosis of many vision threatening eye diseases.  If the disease is diagnosed in its early stages, treatment can begin and this increases the probability of successful treatment.  This is important to slow or reduce potential vision loss.
